About DryWindow
DryWindow is a free tool that answers one question: when is the weather actually good enough to do this job outside?
Why it exists
DryWindow was built by Bilal, a UK-based mobile mechanic and small-business owner working across South Wales. Working on cars outdoors – detailing, ceramic coating, underseal, paint repairs – means the weather decides whether a job succeeds. Time after time, a day that looked dry on a weather app turned out to be too cold, too humid or too close to the dew point for the product to cure properly.
Checking temperature, humidity, dew point, wind and rain probability for every hour of the week, then working out whether there is enough dry time afterwards, is tedious. DryWindow automates exactly that, for the most common outdoor jobs around the home, garden and car.
How it works
The tool requests a free 7-day hourly forecast for your location from Open-Meteo, an open-source weather API that uses models from national weather services. All the calculations run in your own browser. Each job type has a set of rules – minimum and maximum temperature, maximum humidity, dew point margin, maximum wind, rain probability, work duration and drying time – based on typical manufacturer data sheets and trade guidance. You can read the reasoning behind each in our guides.
Our principles
- Free and open: no account, no paywall.
- Private: we do not store your location on a server.
- Honest: forecasts are never certain, and products differ. We show the rules we use and always point you back to the manufacturer's instructions.
